HI! Same case here for flight on April 14th... Where you able to get your luggage in the end?... It has been two weeks already.. Lisa : If you have any information about how to retrieve lost luggage from Air Berlin - please help! My bag was lost when I arrived at Chicago ORD from Berlin on April 16, 2017. I was given a hand written reference number. I insisted on waiting for a printed confirmation of my claim. After an hour of waiting and being told someone was working on it, I was told I could not wait any longer and had to leave the area. I politely refused to leave without the printout. The Air Berlin representative then threatened to have security escort me out. I invited him to go ahead and call security while I waited. Joaquin, the "shift leader", left "to get security" and returned 10 minutes later just as a female representative handed me a print out of my reference number. Some of the information was omitted or entered incorrectly, so I insisted on it being corrected before I would leave. A Lufthansa representative came over to help. He made the corrections and told me that the Air Berlin representatives did not know how to use the system to enter the information correctly. I took photos of the approximately 100 bags which were in the lost luggage area, with no one apparently doing anything about them, and 4 Air Berlin representatives standing around doing nothing but telling me to leave because they have more urgent matters to attend to. I was given an Air Berlin customer service number to call: 917-263-165. After an hour on hold, a person who said he was in Berlin told me I had the wrong number for lost luggage in Chicago. He gave me a number he said was to the 3rd party baggage handler for Air Berlin: 224-279-9576. This gives an automated message for Frontier Baggage Service and the mail box is full. I wen to the airport, terminal 5, Friday morning, April 21. I walked up to the information desk and asked how to get to the lost luggage department. The clerk and police officer sitting behind the desk both said, "were you on an Air Berlin flight?" The clerk told me the only way to talk to someone from Air Berlin in person would be to go to the ticketing desk during the hours before their daily 3:45 pm flight to Berlin, between the hours of about 12:00 to 3:00 pm. I plan to go back tomorrow, April 22. He also gave me a number for Air Berlin customer service, 866-266-5588. I have tried it many times and get a busy signal every time. Hi! I was on the same flight and did not get mu luggage either... If you wrote your lost luggage claim on a piece of paper and not electronically they didn't put you in the system. I went back to the airport 5 days later to find that out. I submitted then the claim electronically and got a reference/confrmation number. So if you don't have this number they don't even know that your luggage was lost or where to send your luggage if they do find it. Now someone os in contact with me from AirBerlin and asked for a specific description of my luggage and content but still no luck. They said they will search for it for 4 weeks since the claim was done and after that it is a lost case. They said I can file a complaint to AirBerlin and that's it. I still have hopes... It is impossible to misplace hundreds of luggage just like that... I'll keep you posted with any news..

My husband and I went to Italy on March 10, 2017. It was our first time to fly on Airberlin. We paid 338 Euros for exit row seats, which we've always done with other airlines and our credit card was charged. When we got to LAX, my husband had his exit row seat but I didn't. The Airberlin check in agent told me that my seat was assigned to somebody else. Despite my complaints, I did not get the exit row and my husband gave up his so we could sit next to each other. The LAX desk said that they can't process our refund there and that we had to go to the Airberlin ticketing desk in Dusseldorf. At Dusseldorf, the agent there said we have to call Airberlin directly to ask for a refund. When we got back from Italy, I emailed Airberlin and received a generic response to contact their office in Germany. I also tried calling their 866 and 917 numbers. First, 866 always had a busy tone and with 917, nobody picked up after waiting for an hour. In this day and age of social media and several options to travel, consumers should not tolerate customer service like this. We work hard for our money and we deserve to be treated properly for the business we give this airline. Never again will we use Airberlin even if it is part of the OneWorld group of companies. We will also share our experience with people we know who do travel to Europe. Disgusting customer service!!!

My flight was canceled at short notice. It is proving virtually impossible to get in contact with Air Berlin to have them refund the resulting costs. For example, I had to pay cancellation fees for a booked hotel. The complaints service from air berlin is sending me in circles, responding with automatic emails which do not address my issues at all. Does anyone know how to contact them in such a manner that they actually responde. thanks

Hi Monica Ann Lee, Have you made any progress? I flew into O'Hare on April 16. While waiting at the Air Berlin lost luggage counter, I saw over 100 bags lined up from previous flights. I took some photos of them. I went to the airport yesterday, April 21 and was told by a volunteer airport information desk clerk that the only way to possibly speak with someone from Air Berlin is to go to the departures check-in desk during the 3 hours before a departure and talk with a ticket agent. He and the police officer at the desk also said that people have been coming into the every day for the past 3 weeks with the same story - lost baggage, no one at Air Berlin cares, no phone number that can reach a person or working voice mail. Pauline : Impossible to send a complaint about lost luggage since the number I was given at ORD airport is only 9 digits and airberlin insists on 10. I did get my luggage back after a delay of 4 days only but I believe only because I went to the airport every day and on the fourth day decided to sit it out. Terrible unprofessional service. Hi Pauline, may I know your flight date? Mine is 4/10/2017 TXL-ORD. we might consider to pick up baggage at the airport directly, but still not sure about whether they arrive or not. it is a horrible experience!

Hi5 : I arrived on AB7420 in ORD on April 6th coming in from TXL but my bag and the bags of half the plane didn't make it. We all filed a claim with the service agent but since then ZERO communication from Air Berlin. It's been almost 3 weeks now and I haven't heard back a word from anybody. I called the 3rd party lost baggage service (Baggage Express) many times but can only leave VMs and haven't heard back from them. I also tried their Facebook account, again no feedback. What a disgrace! If anybody knows as how to contact Air Berlin please advise. Thank You. We face the same situation. My husband and I arrived on AB7420 on 4/10/2017, the agent of air berlin even refused to give us any file reference number! We called them so many times, just in vain! But we found they use SWISSPORT as a subcontractor to deal with baggage claim, I guess maybe just as Triangle Service in JFK. I contacted them today, still waiting for feedback. But I believe this is the only chance we can get baggage back, I won't count on air berlin anymore!!! If you want, we guys (the victims of air berlin) could hold together to retrieve our luggage. My email is Racher.he@gmail.com, please feel free to contact me.

On Feb 1st Air Berlin fully destroyed my luggage on a Berlin-Milan booked with Alitalia and operated by them. I stay Zen, traveling so often these things can happen. I can't stay Zen when I see the way they propose to treat the accident: Dolfi1920 (the company delegated by Air Berlin to treat this type of things) is proposing me 3 alternatives. A) accept an unknown product in change, for which no information is given, nor the size, nor the weight, nothing. All I am being provided is two pictures of a luggage barely visible in a warehouse among Chinese import carton boxes. B) Chose a "Samsonite Base Boost 55", adding 77ˆ to the estimated residual value of mine (used twice). 77ˆ + 31,8ˆ = 109ˆ. I can buy the same model on Amazon for 98ˆ, delivery included. I would imagine that Amazon does not lose money when selling. Hence, AirBerlin is letting Dolfi make profit on the accident and damGBage they caused. C) Chose another product from Dolfi online store, adding my cases's reference number. When doing this, the prices of the luggages proposed are above current market prices. To me this is just fraudolent.

I arrived in Berlin from O'Hare on April 17. My luggage and the luggage of another 25 passengers never showed. After waiting at the carrousel for 1-1/2 hours, a German speaker finally asked an employee what we had to do. So we followed Monica's routine to no avail. I am sitting in my hotel in Berlin with no clothing nor any of our presents for our newborn granddaughter. I emailed AirBerlin about 12 hours after landing. No response as of now, 24 hours later. I fly Air Berlin a lot. It's like they are still in the twentieth century. Their flight info is never up to date. Their planes are so cramped that my knees hit my chin. The only reason I fly this crappy airline is they have non stop flights from ORD to TXL. In the meantime I sit and wait.... QOUTE] Monica Ann Lee : AIR BERLIN IS THE WORST EVER!!!! We flew in to O'Hare Chicago April 14th and the airline managed to lose not only our luggage, but about 50 others as well!!! Air Berlin did not give us any information when we landed and we were asked to fill out our information/claim on a blank piece of paper as they had "run out" of official forms!  We didn't receive any file reference, claim number or telephone number! What a "Mickey Mouse" airline!!!
I have phoned lost luggage in Chicago as well as in Berlin and they say their inbox is full! No one answers and we can not leave a message! I have basically phoned every available number in Germany, Denmark, Sweden and the US and was in the end redirected to the police' lost and found in Chicago who informed me that Air Berlin haven't answered their phones in weeks! We even drove back to the airport before driving to our next destination the day after and not even at the airport were they able to provide us with any contact information to the airline, or to their ground handling agents!
It seems that the only way we can get in touch with the airline is by driving back to O'Hare...again! This adds on an additional 9 hour detour! Not to mention the extra stress, inconvenience and destroying our vacation! We were told that the airline's only at the airport when they have in- and outgoing flights so we have no other option if we want to have any chance at all at retrieving our luggage! I'm going to DEMAND all my expenses paid as well as my ticket back!!!

Did you have a flight change due to ‘urgent operational requirement’? Is the new departure time inconveniant for you? Read what may be the cause of this ‘urgent’ requirement. AirBerlin has a summer and a winter schedule. Although this pattern repeates itself each year, AirBerlin is not very accurate in registering the correct departure time on their website. The ‘wrong’ departure time can be published for month on their website, until they decide to update this departure time to the correct time, e.g. somewhere midwinter they publish the correct summer schedule, somewhere midsummer they publish the correct winterschedule. If you have made your booking before the correct departure times are published, they you have to reschedule your own agenda, do you make extra costs because of this change, does it cost you extra (travelling) time? bad luck for you! AirBerlin thinks it is allowed to change departure times up to 14 days before departure without having to compensate anything. And yes, in a sense they are right when it is a real operational requirement. But you as a consumer also have rights, you have the right to be informed properly and adequatly. As departure time is one of the important characteristics when booking a flight, AirBerlin is obligated by European law to provide correct information about their offering, and this includes departure time. In my case, AirBerlin violated this right. I received an email stating that ‘due to urgent operational requirements’ my flight in jun 2017 is expedited from 15.55 to 06.30. Strange thing is that when I flew last year, I got a same kind of message. Also this flight was expedited from 15.55 to 06.30. My interpretation is that AirBerlin publishes incorrect departure times on their website. They are tos lobby or to lazy to enter the correct times. Only at a certain moment they send you the famous ‘urgent operational requirement’ message. Do you have similar experiences? File a complaint to AirBerlin in order to stop them behaving in this way, ignoring your rights for correct information.

Air berlin lost my luggage for 14 days !!! I was on flight from Berlin to Chicago January 11 2017. My luggage did not arrive together with me. After numerous phone calls finally my suitcase was found and delivered , 2 weeks later ! On January 27 I submitted my claim ( reference V1572360), in a few days I got a formal response from Air Berlin Customers Services refusing to satisfy my claim for delayed luggage. I am still shocked with arrogance of this response from Customer Service, an inattention and unwillingness even to check the documents sent by the passenger!!! The response said “In case of baggage delay on the customer’s flight home a refund of expenses is not possible. We have to put purchases of clothes in question as it is assumed that the customer has clothes as a replacement for the temporary lost ones at home available”. Temporary - 14days ???? Air Berlin Customer service assumes that I have several pairs of winter boots, jackets, suites waiting for me at destination or they think that after 3 weeks of traveling I am capable to spend more money to buy new clothes . What is the difference between flight home or flight to any other destination ? First of al I believe this compensation serves as an apology for inconvenience and nervousness when your baggage did not arrive with you and you don’t know if and when it can be delivered. I have checked Montreal Conventions declaration and Air Berlin luggage rules and did not find any statement about denying compensation on home flight. I am shocked that Air Berlin Customer services did not even try to offer some other type of compensation for the trouble what passenger had to go through. I can’t believe that Air Berlin Customer Service is such poor that they did not know that it is airline’s responsibility to deliver luggage in time! I didn't expect it from this large German airline company any way!

Think twice before flying with Air Berlin! They might steal some items from your baggage. I was unlucky enough to board a flight AB 8121 on October 8, 2011 from Zürich to Berlin. As a result, Air Berlin delayed my baggage for several days and, upon its recovery, I found that two souvenir Swiss Army knives were missing. Of course, they didn't return or compensate the stolen items. They very reluctantly condescended to answer my emails. Well, it was a horrible experience. You diligently pay money for their services. In return, they delay your baggage, spoil your holiday and, as a crowning achievement, dispossess you of your belongings.

FRIENDS, If you want information on your luggage, CONTACT AIR BERLIN VIA FACEBOOK MESSENGER. They responded within minutes, prioritized my baggage, and were able to actually give me information. It is the only way I have been able to get into contact with the airline. ***CONTACT AIR BERLIN ON FACEBOOK MESSENGER WITH YOUR FILE REFERENCE NUMBER*** Hope this helps, as my experience has also be absolutely terrible.

WORST AIRLINE EVER SEEN!!! I was on flight AZ406 (LIN/TXL) and AB7420 (TXL/ORD) on Jan 8th. An additional baggage that I purchased for the cost of EU175 was not delivered to ORD. After several calls to ORD lost and found I am still waiting for the bag to be located and delivered to my address. Reference #: ORDAB11534 Bag Tag: 0055067911 The bag contained high-value merchandise, but most importantly medicines that I cannot purchase in United States. The service provided by AirBerlin has been terrible so far. As of today I still don't know where my bag is. Representative told me to write an e-mail to baggage@airberlin.com, but the e-mail bounces back. Wrote 12 e-mails to service@baggageexpress.de and never got a response. AirBerlin has promptly collected a EU175 fee for the additional bag, however the bag was never delivered to destination. STAY AWAY FROM AIRBERLIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I left my laptop computer and case on my Air Berlin Vienna/Dusseldorf flight on 25 October 2016. My mistake. On 26 October from my final Miami destination I contacted AB about lost computer. I contacted them again, and again, and again. All I got was computer generated responses. On 23 December 2016 I received an email from Baggage Express, AB's lost baggage contractor, that they had found my computer. All I had to do was wire transfer 106 Euros to cover shipping costs and sign a waiver. Did both on 23 December. As of today I have not received my computer plus they have my 106 Euros. I have tried everything including calling AB in the USA (they say they can't help), emailing different addresses and even a fax to BE. I have been completely ignored by AB and BE. AWFUL SERVICE OF PAYING CUSTOMERS!!! AB and BE can reach me at ritchied01@outlook.com

NEVER USE AIR BERLIN. January 9th, 2017: My wife and I booked a trip with Air Berlin fr om Budapest to Madrid via Berlin-Tegel.We arrive BUD airport 2 hours before the flight, made the luggage check-in with no problems. The women at the counter was very attentive, she even put some "priority tags" on our luggage because she knew we had a short connection at Berlin-TXL. The first flight was delayed 20 minutes, anyway we got to TXL, they offered some heart shaped chocolatesat disembarking, I thought that was nice... and then we boarded the second plane with more than enough time left for the "priority luggage" to be moved in to the new airplane. Got to Madrid, no issues inflight, no bad attitude... seemed everything was doing OK. Again at disembarking we were offered the same chocolates. So we got to the luggage belt and bags started coming out. None of them were ours. Finally no new bags came out and the belt stopped after 40 minutes of waiting for our bags. They left our bags at Budapest or at Berlin. Not only our bags, at least half of the other passengers that were making the same route or boarded at TXL had the same problem. We filed the complaint at the Madrid's lost luggage counter, and also filed the complaint thru Air Berlin's website. Flight numbers and date: AB8261/09JAN AB8962/09JAN BAG TAG NUMBERS: AB394784 AB394804 FILE REFERENCE (FILED AT LOST LUGGAGE COUNTER IN MADRID) MADAB14697 PERSONAL REFERENCE NUMBER (COMPLAINT FILED AT AB WEBSITE) 1562908 Will post this on their Facebook page and any other page wh ere people can view this and think twice before booking any flight with Air Berlin or any other airliner using the BERLIN-TEGEL airport. We don't care about money compensation, we only want our bags back, without damage, because our belongings value can't be replaced with money.MORE THAN 24HS HAVE PASSED AND THE AIRLINE BASICALLY DOESN'T GIVE A ***.

Hello I was denied entry to Europe due to negligence by Air Berlin airport staff at Chicago O'Hare International. Airport authorities at Air Berlin desk checked our passports and required documents before letting us board flight to Germany. No one informed us that since my wife hold an Indian passport (she is greencard holder in USA) she would not be able to pass through Germany. Why were we allowed to board the flight? We were denied entry at German airport in Berlin - Tegel and deported back to USA. This has cost us more than $4000 due to all our flight and hotel bookings. The German airport security did not allow us to contact USA Consulate/Embassy. This is my right as a US Citizen and instead they made me book my own ticket from Germany to New York worth 1100 Euros. Who is responsible for this negligence? If we didn't have the right documents, we shouldn't have been allowed to board from USA by Air Berlin staff. I am definitely taking this as far as I have to and looking for some serious compensation on the money I lost. Please contact me directly at +1 (630) 890-3729 or email at joshi.sagar1989@gmail.com

gernot hint... : Still waiting on my luggage. Same flight. This is Ridiculous My checked bag did not arrive on my Air Berlin flight # 7000 from VIE to MIA on 12/20/2016. Airport personnel at the baggage carousel #5 claimed that there is no office on the airport and they will file report. A copy of the report shows a non-existing web site and the listed tel.number to call is forwarded to an extension, which never answers the calls. There is no way to successfully contact Air Berlin. The officially listed number is a phone number in India. AirBerlin is close to bankruptcy (check their share value) and I have reasons to believe that the airport persons are phony and seem to provide information for other criminals to steel luggage. I certainly would support a class action law suit against AirBerlin. There may be a judge, who confiscates an AirBerlin aircraft in the US until all open claims are satisfactorily resolved. There may be thousands of travelers having experienced same problems after their luggage gost lost.

Can someone please tell me where exactly to claim the delayed luggage to Air Berlin? I had a connecting flight Belgrade (Serbia) via Stockholm to Berlin on 31st December in the morning and arriving to Tegel at 12.10pm. I immediately did a Lost baggage report as recommended and some of the stuff told me it is better to wait than leave the airport as they thought my luggage is likely already at Tegel. I waited for 4 hours when it was 4.30pm and they finally said then, no we do not have it here. I received my luggage only on 2nd January at 2pm. I had to buy few necessities like cosmetics and i also bought 2 dresses in total my expense was about 100eur only. I have all receipts saved and I would like to claim the refund but I do not find the most appropriate email address or phone number where i could make a claim. Please help.

Here is a link to an article which will either depress you further or make you laugh, or both! I am thinking of taking to Twitter tomorrow. 7 days and counting without my bag.www.slate.com/articles/business/moneybox... Guest : Air Berlin also lost all our luggage over Christmas. 10 day vacation with just the clothes we worn on the plane. Our vacation is over and we still have not received our bags - any advice? We filled out the air berlin baggage forms and spent over 25 hours on the phone trying to locate our luggage. Has anyone received reimbursement for clothes you had to purchase?

I never received my bag on the flight on the same day out of JFK to Düsseldorf, they ruined my Christmas and our vacation. I am still trying to reach someone in person to help me but they never answer. I am now definitely considering my next steps including taking legal action. Theft and incompetence are equally possible. Estelle Slon : My bag was lost Miami to Düsseldorf to Venice on December 21. All my clothes, ski clothes, plus my granddaughter's Christmas presents were in that bag! Today Air Berlin ruined Christmas!!! The value of the contents of that bag is $2000+++!!!! In the Dolamites to ski with NO warm clothes, nothing!!! Very * !!!!! NEVER FLY AIR BERLIN!!!! Estelle Slon : My bag was lost Miami to Düsseldorf to Venice on December 21. Hi, Airberlin also lost my luggage - JFK via Duesseldorf to Berlin. The monetary loss would be unbearable if the bag doesn't show up. I can just hope they still locate it since this happened 2.5 days ago. Does anyone know what gets reimbursed after 24hours? I don't even have a toothbrush on me. Let's pray they find our bags! Something has to be wrong with Duesseldorf. Seems like a pattern. Fingers crossed, LP

gernot hint... : My checked bag did not arrive on my Air Berlin flight # 7000 from VIE to MIA on 12/20/2016. There may be thousands of travelers having experienced same problems after their luggage gost lost. did you ever get it back????

Prachi Nayani : I am on a business trip to Dusseldorf. I had boarded Air Berlin flight and I have in Dusseldorf with no luggage. Both of my bags have been lost and there is still no trace of it. I have reported the incidence on Dusseldorf lost and found department - Reference number # DUSAB63227. I am strictly veg and had my eatable carried along in the baggage. My daily medicines are also in bag. It is really being tough time for me to adjust in a different country with no means of accessing my clothes, medicines and other basic necessities. Did you ever get your abgs back???? Guest : Flew SAN -LAX (with AA) and then LAX - DUS with airberlin August 25, then DUS- SZG August 26. My luggage never arrived. Zero info and help from baggage services in Salzburg the first 5 days, then zero info and help from airberlin's subcontractor since. And, of course, ZERO communication or ability to contact anyone even remotely willing to help at airberlin itself! Only through multiple complaints on AB's FB page did I first get said BaggageExpress to send me a form e-mail to officially acknowledge my case on September 4, and then, on September 20 (by their own admission, 3 days before they were officially supposed to give up looking for it!) that my baggage couldn't be found! I have flown airberlin many times over the last half decade and never had any problems, but now, having had a huge problem, I am absolutely livid and horrified and their utter lack of customer service or even common decency! Tbh, I don't believe for a second ANYONE ever even *tried* to locate my suitcase - which was in excellent condition, unusual enough to be very noticeable and had a stitched on, pull-out luggage tag with all my contact info as well as items with plenty of my contact info inside! Based on everything I have read online, I very much doubt I will have much luck in ever claiming the compensation I am legally owed, and that doesn't even cover a fraction of the monetary value of the lost items; the emotional value of them is irreplaceable. I have never been this * before in my life, because I have never before in my life dealt with a company which is so negligent in fulfilling its obligations and has so much contempt for its customers! My verdict is: AVOID AIR BERLIN AT ALL COSTS! They are a perfectly decent - good airline if everything goes to plan, but if something goes wrong, they will leave you completely high and dry! (And statistically, things "go wrong" with them far more often than with any comparable carriers!)

Will never, ever fly on this airline again. Purchased a wheelchair specifically because we were going on a 28 day Mediterranean cruise and they lost a wheel on the chair. Had to rent a chair onboard for 10 days which cost me $350.00 and then ended up purchasing a wheelchair in Barcelona. I have been trying to have this resolved since Nov and am just getting a run around. Have been given incorrect e-mail addresses to voice my complaint.
