Quite possibly the worst airline and airline customer service i have experienced after having a laptop stolen from a checked in holdall bag 2 years ago. I will never use this airline ever again.

Does anyone know where I go do make a delayed/lost baggage claim? Mine was lost for over a week but was returned to me after hours or relentless pestering at the airport. No-one has given me the link of where to make my reimbursement claim though :/

DO NOT FLY with Air Berlin. Avoid any stop over flight in/out of Berlin Tegal. I lost my luggage from a stopover at Tegal coming from Copenhagen to Stockholm for 11 DAY!!!!!! It is impossible to deal with Air Berlin and Menzies Aviation (Stockholm Arlanda), customer service is non existent. You can not call or email them. You will not be answered! Air Berlin is much worst. Waited 20 minutes only for call to cut off! World bag tracer website is just as worse, never updated and never gives specific details. I am out of pocket at least $2,000 EURO. This is as a result of having to buy new clothing and essentials. On my fourth last day of my European trip I finally got through to Menzies Aviation. A tip call them right on the hour of 9am to increase chances of call taken. As a result my bag was located in Stockholm. Who knows how long it was there or what the plans were with it! There was no guarantee the luggage would get to me in Spain within four days. I refused the risk it would be sent to my home in Australia. Instead I altered my trip flew back to Stockholm to personally collect my bag! It was the only way I could feel confident of ever seeing it again! So after incurring losses due to no luggage and travel costs to collect my luggage personally I am at least $2,000 EURO out of pocket. Trying to get Air Berlin to respond to your claim is also impossible and you must have patience about 3 weeks after every response. The offer on table by Air Berlin, a $200 EURO discount off next travel!. You have to be joking! I can't imagine they will reason as they are this difficult and anti customer centric. Stay away from them and Tegal as a stopover that involves luggage transfers!

By far the worst airline I have traveled. They lost our baggage for the ENTIRE duration of our trip in the united states. They don't reply to emails or pick up calls. Their reps on counters are extremely rude and insensitive. There is no concept of customer centricity. Not a single reply back for as much as an apology let alone reimburse the claim for daily expense. We are now thinking of taking a legal action.

worst luggage experience ever. three bags missed a connecting flight. landed in vienna, no bags. go to file the claim, they say, don't call, we won't answer, don't bother sending emails, we don't answer them either. expect about 5 days to get your bags. I drove back 7 hour round trip the next day and picked up two bags, Third is still missing and i'm flying home after a week. They do not update computers, so it still shows all 3 missing. The vienna lost luggage area has probably 4,000 bags, and no security, you can just push a buzzer say air berlin lost bags, they buzz you in and you can grab any bag you want and leave.. unbelievable.

Cole : It has been 3 weeks since Air Berlin lost my luggage. I have had no compensation to purchase basic items, nor can I find their policy. Does anyone know what the policy is or how to go about sending them a request? Thanks, Cole It has been more than 4 weeks for my baggage to get lost by Air Berlin and they don't communicate anything for the compensation, Never Fly with Air Berling. Mr. Cole, you can raise a complaint on their Webpage to get the compensation for delayed item purchase, but keep your bill safe with you.

Hi, Air Serbia lost my luggage on a flight from Athens to Rome, via Serbia on 4th August, found on 8th August and since then Ive been emailing them, calling them. Ive had no luck as Air Serbia say that it is at Rome airport and talk to them and Rome airport say they can no longer read any of my file details as it is in the care of Air Serbia. Perhaps I should have waited around at Rome for 5 days and picked it up because now I cant get hold of anyone and noone replies to the correct emails. I dont know what else I can do and need some things very soon not to mention the hassle of trying to contact the uncontactable!!!

Air Berlin 'lost' my luggage in Paris apparently on a connection (two hours ten minutes to change planes..) after flying vegas-NY-Paris with American Airlines. I skip the details, the unanswered emails, the fact that Austroport never answers the phone (you know incidentally the lost and found) so as I had to leave for France on Monday, had to go back by myself to the bloody airport to give another address of delivery and check in the storage room if bag was not there!!! Day 6 after hundreds of mails with no answer and new unanswered phone calls, bag located at Vienna airport, email says (from Air Berlin) 'someone will contact you for delivery' . That was two days agao, still no one has. I think i europa.eu/youreurope/citizens/travel/pas... might be the next step..Thank you Air Berlin for really ruining the end of my holidays, instead of giving my gifts and showing my photos, i'm brooding over the phone!!!!!!!

Bag lost OSL>TXL on 09.08.14 on Air Berlin, still not returned, only gobbeldeguk automated excuses from Globeground in Berlin. however, as this was a direct flight, and seeing the ground handlers in OSL take half an hour to unload a wheelchair passenger (are they Menzies also maybe?), leaving the poor guy in a glass airbridge in 27-28 deg to sit there and bake, I can only assume that Menzies is the real issue, for my situation at least. TXL is a mess no doubt, and certainly I would never transfer with baggage through there, but I would also avoid OSL in general in future, at least with any checked baggage, or if you are a wheelchair user. I fly every week, but Air Berlin can join my black list alongside Ryanair and UTair, and I'll be travelling hand luggage only from now on, I've had enough of the stress of it.. plus AB service & continuity with boarding procedure leads a bit to be desired- plus it's often Legacy carrier ticket prices for budget airline service. tired aircraft also. thumbs down.

11 August 2014 03:08:00 Constructive but recommend to avoid AirBerlin

I can only echo what the person from 09 August has said. We lost our luggage twice when connecting from and to Germany when flying via Tegel. On the trip out, the luggage was returned to us three days after we had landed. Back in Oslo, the same problem: Menzies. Due to the Norwegian holidays, they are short staffed; due to apparent strike action a number of people are "sick". The national broadcaster NRK was apparently there to evaluate the baggage situation and take some snaps. I called almost every day (both AirBerlin and Menzies) and had the same terrible waiting plus customer service experience (insurance does not pay if you are back "home" and your luggage is lost). We landed back in Oslo on Wednesday. When there was no news on Saturday, I went to the airport myself, was let in and picked out my suitcase that was standing with more than a thousand of other pieces. I will now ask AirBerlin for a refund for the trip. In any case: - Although AirBerlin was a nice airline when on board, the fact to change at Tegel makes the airline a no-go. - At least for Oslo airport Menzies also does services for Turkish, Brussels and other airlines as well as British Airways. After the Menzies experience, I would deliberately choose another one to avoid these baggage handlers What to do: - Go to the airport and get your luggage (AirBerlin had delivered it that same evening on the same flight, it was Menzies that was incapable to muster enough staff; still the luggage got stuck in Tegel...twice) - Complaints need to go to AirBerlin, your credit card company you booked with and then your travel insurance. If abroad, call the two latter and ask for when they kick in; in our case the delay can even be under 24 hours of your bag not arriving. Go shopping and keep the receipts. In conclusion, AirBerlin had lost all Tegel-connecting flight passengers' bags when we queued at Menzies. Menzies is so far the worst customer service I have seen in Europe with an airline.

09 August 2014 10:08:00 Tegal - Arlanda

It has been one whole week and still nobody from Air Berlin or Menzies Aviation, the Stockholm Arlanda baggage handlers will take responsibility or courtesy to find and deliver my bag. It is impossible to reason with Menzies. They have no idea about customers service and satisfaction. They will just treat you like a number not a person. It is a battle calling them the number is constantly engaged. Air Berlin are like the guys running away from the scene of a crime. You call and can wait up to half hour. My advice, stay away from Air Berlin, avoid any connecting flight stop overs involving Berlin Tegal. It is ripe lost baggage happens all the time there. It is an old crowded airport with no automated and efficient systems.

Guest : anyone reading this and hoping to take an air berlin flight with checked luggage should think again. DO NOT FLY AIR BERLIN AND CHECK YOUR BAGS. and by no means even think about it if you are changing planes because you will not greet your luggage back and trying to recover it is IMPOSSIBLE. THEY DO NOT CARE. THEY WILL YES YOU TO DEATH AND THEY WILL LIE TO YOUR FACES. i flew to Rome with them via Germany from New York along with my wife. both our luggages went missing. by some miracle they found hers after 4 days and sent it to the hotel but they reported that BOTH our bags were delivered. i called every day while in italy and they said they found my luggage but it was never sent and everyday i called they said they have no idea why it wasn't sent because they have a note to the delivery service to send it to me. but when you ask them for the number of this magic delivery service they claim they do not have it. when i flew back from Italy i went back to the office before my flight and they took me to 3 ROOMS FILLED WITH LUGGAGE FROM ALL OVER THE PLACEW, SOME GO BACK 2 YEARS! THEY KEEP IT THERE ANT MAKE NO ATTEMPT TO GET IN TOUCH WITH THE OWNERS OF THE BAGS. IT WAS WILD JUST LIKE OUT OF A MOVIE. NOW THAT WE ARE BACK I TRY TO EMAIL THEM, NO ANSWER, I READ THEIR RESPONSES TO MY BLOGS, THAT I SHOULD FILE A REPORT. WHAT IDIOTS AND THEN FINALLY THEY TELL ME TO CONTACT THE OFFICE IN ITALY ALTHOUGH I HAVE BEEN HOME FOR 2 WEEKS. DONT FLY THEM IF YOU ARE CHECKING BAGS OR HAND CARRY EVERYTHING!

I travelled from Delhi to New York on 4th of June 14. I didn't get my 2 baggage on the belt. When I went to the person who was Supervisor at the airport. I was shocked when he said that we do not guarantee you whether you will get your luggage or not. He didn't give me my claim number till the time I was there in USA. I got my 1 bag after 7-8 days & lot of stuff was missing in that. We use to call everyday to lost & found Deptt at New York Airport but they always disconnect the phone. I came back after spending 5 week there but could not get my 1 Bag. The worst part is Air Berlin's staff at New York Airport who doesn't know how to behave & talk with a customer.. Mr. Omar was the person whom I met both time. He was very rude & said ' we don't care & do what ever you want to do'. This is really ridiculous. We will never travel in Air Berlin & Donot recommend any body to travel Rajan BAJAJ rajan_bajaj74@yahoo.in

My suitcase was lost while I was travelling from London to Moscow via Dusseldorf. My friends got all their luggage but me and a number of other passengers didn't get anything from the belt. I don't know if it's possible to get it via their partner line, but the next flight with AirBerlin from Dusseldorf is only on Friday. Has anyone ever got their suitcases back from this airline?

I have got a similar problem, it has been almost three days and I dont have any information about my suitcases from air berlin, I flew Milan-Berlin-Copenhagen and the two suitcases disappeared. This company is getting very bad, they use secondary companies to move the suitcases and those companies are very irresponsible.

My suitcase got lost when I flew AirBerlin in August 2013. The suitcase was found 10 days later but I never got any information about it before I was back at the airport flying back home. I went to the AirBerlin desk and asked for the suitcase and after some calls they wold me that the bag would be sent to me with a flight to Menorca the day after ! Which means, that if I would not have asked at the desk for the bag, they would have sent it to me to Menorca even if I left already back through Germany to Finland. As my suitcase was lost during the whole vacation, I had to buy both long sleeved shirts and pants for the chillier evenings, sunscreen, contact lenses and other necessities, and I used around 200ˆ in the end for all of that. I have been waiting to get refunded for the necessities now for almost a year, and everytime I remind the Customer Service of my refund, they tell me it will take some time. I get no answers, no information of the process or anything else. AirBerlin also tried to refund me with a voucher of 200ˆ, which I would get back in case I book a flight, which to me sounded like being fooled. I was told by the staff at the Lost and Found desk that I would get paid back in money for the things I had to buy in order to manage at my vacation, so even if I could not really afford buying things (as a student) I did buy the necessities with the thought that I would get paid back before the end of the year. Now it's been a year since I travelled to Menorca and my suitcase was lost. And still, AirBerlin Customer Service is not able to tell me what is going on and when I will get the refund.

I was travelling fr om Naples to Berlin with our wonderful AirBerlin and my backpack never arrived. They sent me to the 'lost and found' office where there was a very arrogant woman who took my boarding pass details and then told me that they did not know wh ere the backpack was but that it'll reach my home in 2 days...it's been 5 days now and I can not get intouch with them. They have successfully disconnected their phone lines and they are not responding to any of my attempts to get in touch with them.. so now I am thinking of going to the police station to register a case against AirBerlin for 'stealing' precious and valuable cargo with a tremendous amount of sentimental value.

My bag was lost when transferring in TXL. First they said it had been left behind and they had found it so would put it on the next flight. When the next flight arrived my bag wasn't there. Now they keep telling me the same thing, that it was supposed to arrive but did not, so it's lost. Do not fly Air Berlin! Or if you do, don't check any bags, especially when transferring at TXL! My holiday of a lifetime has been ruined and I have lost a lot of money. All Air Berlin staff and their aviation services contractor were rude and unhelpful!

Me and a friend travelled from Oslo with Air Berlin to Madrid via Berlin. From there on we travelled with Iberia to Granada. We never received our luggage, and since we were going to a very fancy wedding this made the whole holiday very stressful for us both. We filed a missing luggage file with Iberia, since the last airline you fly with apparently are responsible for our luggage, but also tried to call Air Berlin without getting any information from them. We travelled by bus to Nerja, and home again with Air Berlin from Malaga via Berlin to Oslo - this time we refused to check in any luggage (and we only had two small bags, because we never got our luggage). In Berlin we went by the joint information desk for Iberia and several other airlines. There a guy more or less could confirm that our luggage was missing, and he said the luggage handlers for Air Berlin were on strike when we travelled to Spain, and they were again on strike now... So apparently he though our luggage was still in Berlin somewhere, but couldn't help us out. We tried going by missing luggage for Air Berlin, but we were met buy a very impolite lady who meant all the fault and responsibility laid with Iberia, and she refused to talk to us. Now we´ve been home in Oslo for two days, and we´ve filed several missing luggage reports and contacted Iberia on Facebook, since they really didn´t understand us on the phone (and didn´t answer the phone most of the times). They still have no information about our luggage. My recommendation is - DO NOT fly with Air Berlin, and if you have no choice - don´t even think about checking in your luggage.

Livio Tsach : Dear Fellow passengers, I booked my flight with Air Berlin for me and my fiance last week. I Put all correct details in my Reservation and confirmed the flight. When my Reservation came back, it had all correct Information for my Name as a passenger and my Fiance last name was somehow mistakenly Switched with mine. I tried contacting Air Berlin without any luck since their call Center numbers only work once in a blue moon and decided to resolve this at the Airport since we were leaving a few days later anyways. When we arrived at Munich Aiport, the Air Berlin employee let us fly without any issues, and printed the Boarding Card with my Fiance's first name and my last name. She was able to fly to our Destination without any Problems. On the return flight, she was refused Boarding by the local Airport staff, claiming that her Information was not correct ( even if Air Berlin had no Problem issuing Boarding Card in the first flight ) and practically forced her to rebuy a new ticket even if we had a reserved seat on the plane. Needless to say that the Aiport staff called Air Berlin without our presence and apparently got a refusal for my Fiance to board the plane, forcing her to purchase a new ticket with her correct Details. I asked personel to let me speak to Air Berlin but they refused saying that I should make my own calls on my own time. My call was not a professional Emergency and would not be allowed to me made from their telephone..They were nice enough to print the Call Center number from Air Berlin who were incorrect of course and not functioning. After this nightmare, Air Berlin was delaying the issuying a new ticket, which prompted the Airport officials to give my Fiance a blank Boarding pass with seat Information written with a simple pen, and also made them check her luggage in the plane without any Bomb, liquid or flammable device verification of any Kind. The employee simply took the bag, tagged it and brought it physically from the Checking Counter to the plane, without performing any necessary safety verification needed for the safety of the Crew and passengers already on boad the flight. We repeatadly said that we had Liquids in her luggage, so we could not take it as a Hand luggage with us. On top of that, my fiance, who is the most kind hearted Person in the word, was left crying at the aiport, wondering how Air Berlin staff and Airport officials of Catania aiport could be so cold hearted to their passengers and ruin their travel experience for pocketing an additional 170 Euros. ( cost of the second ticket ). Could anyone assist with sending this experience to Social Medias, journalists friends etc..? Even I we dont get any Money back from Air Berlin, i would like to all passengers to know what a crappy experience they are getting into. My Email is liviustsach@yahoo.fr if you need to reach me. anyone reading this and hoping to take an air berlin flight with checked luggage should think again.

Where can I find information on the clothing allowance for lost baggage and the appropriate forms? It has been two weeks.

My wife, 14 month old and I flew from Belgrade on Air Serbia to TXL for connection to Air Berlin to Chicago with checked bags (foolishly we put irreplaceable family photo albums in these bags with our clothes). We were told our arrival was late due to TXL air traffic control - as a result we only had 30 minutes to clear passport control and get to AB departure gate (and it took 30 minutes to clear the queue) so we missed the AB flight. We were put on a British Airways flight to Chicago by Air Serbia due to One World status a few hours later (thankfully) but they / we are now unable to locate our bags! BA told us the bags were still in Berlin (which we now think only means they never made it onto the BA plane) so they must have never made it onto the Air Berlin plane either. To add to this, the BA agent who checked us in and reissued the claim checks for the bags only issued us a single claim check for both bags - and when we challenged that, told us don't worry it's fine and dismissed us. I realize this circumstance is almost hopeless given the frequency and nature of baggage handling WITHIN AIR BERLIN connecting flights noted below, much less involving ANOTHER airline not in their group. And I also realize our own stupidity / ignorance / trusting nature plus the hectic nature of travel with a baby added to the situation. Our efforts to track down the bags (which we KNOW are in an off-airport-property Air Berlin lost luggage holding area in Berlin somewhere with thousands of other bags, apparently) thru AB website, call center, airport Lost and Found have been met mostly with indifference or marginally rude conversations with people when we reach one. We are hopeful someone with a little interest in helping will somehow do so and we will get our pictures...naive? Probably. Advice: as below, watch out for TXL airport with connecting flights, especially ones with short connection times, and make sure you take a carry-on bag with everything you cannot afford to lose or be without for an extended period.

I flew rome to Paris via Vienna with air Berlin. However on arrival in Paris I was informed my bag didn't make the changeover in Vienna, but would be put on the first flight the next morning. I spent 2 hours the next morning running around the airport looking for my bag only to be informed that it hadn't arrived. I was informed my baggage would be send to my residential address in Australia once it has arrived in Paris. The day after returning home I got a call from Sydney airport saying I could collect my bag. I live 2 hours away from the airport. As air Berlin lost my luggage surely it is their responsibility to cover the cost of delivering my baggage. I contacted Paris airport and they told me I have to deal directly with the airline, as they would only deliver within Paris. I have tried contacting Air Berlin and received no response. Based on what I read below, this is a common problem. I certainly won't be flying with them again.

On Jun 29, they started their travel fr om New Delhi to JFK via EY211 Etihad Airways. During their layover at Abu Dhabi, they were informed that their next flight Air Berlin 7461 has got cancelled. They were later offered to travel via Etihad Airways EY101 and were informed that their baggage will arrive next day. This has been the 5th day wh ere I am still waiting to hear from your company about the status of the baggage. Upon multiple inquiries at Etihad customer service and 718-751-3148, we are informed that the bag is still not traceable.

UPDATE: They said they found my bag and then delivered the WRONG bag to my office. Cannot get in touch with JFK lost and found OR Airberlin regarding this Tovah : airberlin ruined my most recent trip. They lost my luggage and only returned it on the LAST day of my trip. I was a bridesmaid in a wedding and my dress and everything else for the wedding was not there. Then, when I returned back home they lost my luggage AGAIN. I have never lost luggage before in my life, and when I fly with this airline, which apparently has a reputation for losing luggage, I lost my luggage TWICE. I spent my VACATION stressing about finding a new dress for the wedding and attempting to locate my luggage. Airberlin's customer service was entirely unsympathetic and I have not heard from them re: compensation for my time and expenses incurred due to my loss of luggage. I am still without my luggage back home and could not be more upset.

One more horror story from my side on Air Berlin. I travelled from Bangalore to Krakow (Poland) via Abu Dhabi, Berlin and Krakow. From Bangalore to Abu Dhabi (thru' Jet Airways) and Abu Dhabi to Berline and Berlin to Krakow by Air Berlin. I understand my baggage was boarded to Air Berlin aircraft at Abu Dhabi. However, when I landed in Krakow, my baggage is missing. Even after 4 days they are unable to trace my baggage. I am on business trip with so any documents, garments and official documents in my baggage. I am having sleepless nights. Horrible experience. Moreover they do not respond to toll free which is provided by the local office Krakow. Think twice before you use Air Berlin. These kind of airlines needs to be banned from operating. Some international organization should impose sanctions on these countries as well as airlines. Person who has lost his baggage and not found for more 4 days can understand this pain and agony. Please let me know any way to get back my baggage, I have completed all the formalities of reporting to lost & found office at Krakow. My baggage tag details are Following are the baggage details Krakow Reference No. : KRKAB14146 Baggage Tag No.: AB8732 KRK AB7486 TXL 9W504 AUH Travelling From – Bangalore – Abu Dhabi – Berlin – Krakow Dates : 21st & 22nd June 2014 Flight Nos. : EY8702 – EY1401 – EY1795. Require help on this

Hi! I submitted a complaint to Berlin customer services 1 year ago but until now nobody responded. We have booked and paid for a ticket to Cuba via local Croatian agency, however, Air Berlin canelled our booking due to the ''double booking'' in another agency. We have checked their terms and conditions and all relevant acts but nowehere it is stated they can ''cancell'' a plane ticket which was already paid and issues to the customer (for this we had to pay additional 130 EUR, VAT included). Do you know to whom a further suit may be filled (maybe some EU bodies for customer protection?)? FYI-I am from Croatia.

Guest : see complaint dated 2 April by Alex. He is organizing a class action suit. You can contact him by e-mail Alex33UK@me.com. Our complaint was listed on 6 May and we are joining efforts. I'm wondering if anyone has heard of AirBerlin selling "extended seats", cancelling them and not refunding the money. I've been chasing AirBerlin for 8 months to no avail. I even filed a complaint with the U.S. Transportation Dept and they has no luck getting my money back. The customer relations office rarely responds and if they do, they claim the refund is in process. They also lost one of our bags and claimed it was returned to us within 24 hours (it was not!), and we've been fighting for reimbursement of our expenses from the lost bag. I am blown away by how they operate. I have a feeling that the "extended seat" and cancellation of the seats without a refund is an intentional scam by AirBerlin. I'd like to go after them in a class action suit if I can find other passengers with the same experience.
