This is the worst airline I've ever been on. I would rather pay 3 times as much, take a flight 5 times as long, and miss my destination by a whole week than fly sata again. I will be filling a small claims lawsuit to recoup the money I've had to spend on getting back to LA after my delayed first flight out of Lisbon. By the way, our delay was never announced, even though I had activated flight updates. Also, the layover on that little island of Portugal (idgaf what it's called) was not known prior to landing here-the ticket did not mention it, the email confirmation did not mention it, when I called to check on flight they did not mention it. They don't speak English, the food is awful, the wifi doesn't work even after you pay for I flight wifi, the booze is limited even if you're willing to pay, the staff is inexperienced, water is like diamonds on these flights, you'll be thirsty and THEY WILL NOT give you water until you ask 10 times and then they'll give you a third of a tiny little plastic cup even if you've now asked 50 times. Even worse, not even first class feels like first class. Id rather fly economy, get the middle seat in the back of the plane sitting between two extreme stinkie and overweight people than fly sata again. I had an awful first 2 experiences flying sata, but my friends once again convinced me to try it & it just got worst. I advise they take all of the murderers & rapists in those overcrowded jails and make them fly sata a few times. They'd either kill themselves or start praying to God that it's over!
Horrible service yet again. Paid to check in an extra piece of luggage that stayed behind and apparently they knew it wasn't going to be sent! 180 luggages left behind....spoiled food! will be receiving it in 5-6days!
My flight on SATA this summer was delayed from Sao Miguel to Boston. I missed my flight out of Boston to San Francisco because of this delay, and SATA could not get me another flight out of Boston because, I "did not book with them on my flight to San Francisco". Great excuse. They gave me a night stay at a hotel and money for food, but I had to purchase NEW tickets on JetBlue to get back to the west coast---without any kind of discount, and of course it was almost the double amount of money from my original flight to San Francisco (that is why I didn't purchase my return tickets with them in the first place!) I was told I could file a claim, and I did write an email (which was almost a month ago) and I have yet to hear anything from them besides a complimentary email saying they "received my request". I'm totally fed up with this airline, and I wonder how stopping their direct flights from Oakland to Terceira is saving them money. I would think they would SAVE a whole lot of money if they offered those flights again--that would be one LESS delay in Boston for their customers on the west coast. IT IS SOOOO EXPENSIVE for us who live in California. Something has to change..
Sata I hope you read these comments and go out of business!! how do you cancel a flight an hours before departure with a gate full of people some are seniors, kids.. I'm sooo disgusted by the way staff behave, no respect for anyone. I will now rather go through boston but will take another airline , Never again will I be a sata customer!!
Unfortunately my parents have come victims of the horrible service aswell. Not only their policy services but the service at the airpot...they left without them! They were in line for checkin well over an hour and a half in advance and the plane left them behind. They were literally there well before the flight but when they got to the checkin desk, the people asked them to wait....they came back and said the flight had left(we saw the actual take off and they left 20 minutes after that). No attempt to call them or ask for the 2 missing people was made at all! when my parents asked why and how to fix this, they said you can buy tickets to the islands and then tickets to the mainland after......before this they had to already lost over 500 to sata which they promised to reimburse...they didn't. my parents are seniors left with no options, my father asked if hey could have a hotel to stay...they said no. He asked for just a bus ticket home....they said no. I was fortunate to be awake and had to take the 1 1\2 hr ride up and 1 1\2 hr ride back with my exhausted humiliated parents. Sata........You treat people like this and you Will be shut down!!!!!
Once again I fly SATA. Once again problems! They too often run behind schedule. TV/Sound equipment always has problems. Outbound to Ponta Delgada from Boston movie starts playing, audio starts 20 minutes later. Inbound from Porto to Boston large wall screen in our section wasn't working. We could not watch the movie. Asked crew twice about it, never came back with an answer. Not surprised, because the same thing happened with no audio on a trip 2 years earlier. The crew should spent less time doing a head count before departure and try harder to act upon customer's issues on board. I've complained via email to SATA about these problems before. They apologize and make an excuse and nothing gets done about it. Some competition with other airlines could help getting these problems resolved or avoid using them and try the competition.
Awful! Awful service!! My parents flight was cancelled yesterday last minute - 3 Hours before departure! No reason given as to why. We are guessing they are overbooking the flights on some days! We will never travel with Sata again.
why are they in business!!!! We selected SATA for my parents 50th wedding anniversary gift. 24 hours before everything was on schedule! 6 hours before the flight we were told they were on strike and no called us-we called them!! So rather than a six hour flight, my parents that are 70+ had to travel a total of 48 hours to arrive at their destination. They were suppose to arrive on Wednesday at 7:20 am and now they arrive on Friday at 2:00 am. Horrible airline!!! My parents had the same issue 3 years ago, they cancelled their connection flight - their excuse - a glitch in the system!!! Just terrible service. No wonder TAP is the way to go!!! I should of listened to my friends. Extremely disappointed!!
Least legroom of any airline I have ever flown. Impossibly tight. Designed for very little people. Miserable if 6ft or over.
Hi Dylan, I'm Brad, also fr om Canada. I am also trying to get hired with Sata as a first officer. I've spent the better part of 3 years just converting my licences to EU license which they operate under. This included all my pilot licenses, citizenship, passport and the easiest the "Cartao Cidadao." Ive spent a lot of my time and resouces just to finally meet the requirements JUST to apply. If you don't have the tax card (cidadao) which replaced essentially all cards such as your Social insurance card, health card and citizenship card then I suggest you get one. Next time your there, in Parque Atlantico is a shop wh ere you can apply. I dont imagine it will be too difficult to find a job as a flight attendant as their are more of them and from what I was told many of them are pilots. Theoretically they will move to their flight crew position. At least that's what they told me on a flight home when i inquired about future employment Dont know how tru that is because I dont know any pilot who would think an airline would appreciate him halting his flying experience. Seems a bit odd that you would want someone on the deck with a few years off of flying just renewing ratings once a year. Also almost every airline in the world you can find info on previous hiring dates, qualifications etc etc... I think it due to their size. By international standards they are a fairly small company and I think much of their hiring is done internally for flight crew. A good one however, and that's why I have exhausted my resources just to meet these requirements for one airline. Let me know how you get on and if anyone can provide me with information on the chief pilot that would be greatly appreciated. Before my career i also found SATA crew member real mean and the service was bad and i had to pay alot of money! I like my job and my flight attendants for my crew are always up to standard. I mostly deal with Canadians and Non Speaking Portuguse people. I deal with flight 320, 321, and 310. I will bring these issues up to the Human Resources so that they can bring up the Requirements to meet your standards. The money wise it is vary expensive flying to north american destinations such as Boston and Toronto. Sorry.
of course overall sata needs big improvement starting from ground crew to flight services poor poor management i agree with other comments universirty students dont like to serve why is sata hiring hight degree people i dont know here with our canadian arlines all u need is high school diploma for heaven sake hire normal people that will serve you properly i also agree hire torontonias as crew menber the older the better not these young folks that just want show offf and doesnt want to work thanks
