Due to fog, our flight landed in Cali; whilst I know that the situation was an ' act of God', what I can not accept is Avianca staff's behaviour. They left us on the plane for an hour without notifying the passengers. When they finally made an announcement it was in Spanish. Members of staff seemed to struggle with speaking English, which I found surprising for a company that claims to be international. We were finally announced that we had to disembark the plane and wait for further information. There was only one member of staff based in Cali waiting area. Unfortunately, she spoke very little English. We were very anxious at this point as we had a connecting flight in Bogota that was leaving in 3 hours. We were assured through a passenger interpreter that we would be on the next connecting flight.
We finally managed to get a flight to Bogota 3.5 hours later. Security was an absolute joke. They confiscated my mosquito repellent that was essential for me as Columbia is a Zika hot spot. I explained to security that I was just in transit but without any explanation they we adamant that I could not travel with it.
Avianca staff informed us that we would not be able to board our connecting flight and would have to fly to San Salvador and connect to another flight to San Jose.
Staff at every point of this disastrous journey were rude and uninformative. It was a comedy of errors. I have never come across a more incompetent company in my life.
We finally arrived in San Jose 7 hour later than our original allocated time of arrival eager to commence our delayed holiday only to discover that my luggage had been lost.
A member of staff assured me that my lost luggage would be delivered 10 am the next day. 12pm the next day our luggage my luggage had still not arrived; when we called the airline. They informed my husband that my baggage was not in the country but will be arriving in the next 30 min.
At 2pm they told my husband that my luggage was still in Bogota and will be put on the next flight.
My husband called the airline yet again and was informed that my luggage would not arrive until the next day. I still have not received my luggage.
I have never come across a more incompetent company who lie to their customers at every given opportunity.
This was our dream holiday and the flights alone cost us over 2000 dollars. It seems this company does not value their customers. They did not even have the decency to apologise at any point of this farce.
