I came from Tokyo to Gothenburg, stopping at Abu Dhabi and Berlin on the August 5th and August 6th respectively. My problem is the same with many new posts, lost baggage. I have been trying to contact Menzies Aviation and Air Berlin for two days now. Nobody tried to call me to let me know the status of things. Instead I needed to call around and eventually got two numbers that were both "BUSY" when I called. This is very interesting indeed. When I sent a complain message via Air Berlin online contact form, the automatic reply message told me that my message could not be delivered. Why?? This is Air Berlin's own message service we are talking about. I cannot understand this other than articulating the possibility of somebody at Air Berlin trying to block unfavorable comments from me out? My original message to Air Berlin: My baggage was lost two days ago, and I have been trying to get a hold of somebody who can give me a clear understanding of the situation without success. I called Menzies Aviation more than three times to hear that nothing was found. So I called air berlin service number only to be given two more new phone numbers:004930410175442 and 00493034344646. These two numbers were actually busy at the time of my call, no customer queue. It felt like as if Air Berlin is trying to evade the whole problem by not talking to me! The baggage I had contains a lot of gifts from friends in Tokyo and souvenir items, as well as all of my personal items and gadgets! It is very important to me. I have been worried sick these two days. After Air Berlin lost my baggage I expected Air Berlin to actively contact me in order to keep me updated, not me trying way too hard to get a hold of somebody!!!! This is a really terrible experience. Can you understand the inconvenience this whole situation is causing me, and the non-responsive attitude of Air Berlin is making it worse? I hope to hear from somebody soon, please! At least let me know my available options!

Just got to Gothenburg from Basel via Berlin. No bag to greet me. Approx 10 people/family groups from the same flight didnt get their bags either. Customer service at Gothenburg said Air Berlin baggage had been unreliable for several weeks and they were * as well. As an aside, there were stacks of bags around the service area from Air Berlin dated the last few days lying in the open and unclaimed, presumably to yet be delivered. Thanks for lack of security!!!! Plus around a dozen unclaimed bags dated 5th of August on our baggage belt with hand written code for Gothenburg covering a previous sticker. The lack of security is very VERY concerning.

We made it to JFK from Cracow, Poland via Berlin, Germany, but my mother's and my daughter's suitcase did not make it. It was sheer chaos as there was a large group of passengers on the same flight whose luggage did not make it across the Atlantic Ocean. It was impossible to get someone to answer the phone to lost baggage claim, and upon calling Air Berlin I was given the same number to the unmanned telephone. After 3 days in the * and my mom having no clothes to wear, we took it upon ourselves to make the 4 hour trip back to JFK to see about our luggage; and waiting for hours for the Air Berlin counter to open, we were finally able to retrieve our bags from the lost and found area. According the the ticket agent, 60 bags and been delivered the night before from Germany. We arrived 7 days ago, I'm still waiting for a reply to my email. Terrible, horrible, nonexistent customer service.

Sadly I am sitting in a hotel roomin Sweden with o suitcase and I am doing a presentation at a conference starting tomorrow with nothing to wear but what I am wearing now - and I have had to travel on from Copenhagen without my bag as I had to go by train to Sweden - a disappointing end to my trip and I fear I will lose all my gear through sheer negligence on the part of Air Berlin - last time I will fly with this airline. Two suitcases mysteriously disappear after flying with Air Berlin. We had a connecting flight through Berlin TXL. Have contacted both the airline and the airport. No response from Air Berlin and the airport blocked me from contacting their lost luggage department a 2nd time. Useless, incompetent staff. Avoid Air Berlin and Berlin TXL. It's not worth the risk.

Me and my wife are currently sitting in Paris not having access to any of our clothes or other things since Air Berlin managed to lose both our bags. No word of anything yet. This really ruined our vacation, most likely we will have to go out and buy some cheap clothes if we want to actually do anything here in Paris.

Yesterday, I flew in from Chicago through American Airlines to Rome via Berlin. Berlin to Rome I was on the airline Air Berlin. WORST EXPERIENCE EVER never taking it again. Today, the whole time I have been at the Rome airport from 11AM to 6:30PM trying to sort out wh ere my luggage is. There is no customer service the network staff who was representing Air Berlin was of no help they gave me a number to call Air Berlin. I used there phone and no response 30mins of waiting on hold then the phone gets disconnected. Many people around me about 7 families were having the same problem lost luggage from the same airline but not same flight. Some people had to go on a cruise the next day and one couple on their honeymoon. NEVER TAKING AIR BERLIN AGAIN WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE AND LUGGAGE IS ALWAYS LOST! Never found...

I flew fr om Abu Dhabi to Phuket on 05.07.13 and returned phuket to Abu Dhabi on 17.07.13 with Air Berlin. I have heard some very good reports about AB and was looking forward to flying with them, however I did not experience good customer service. On the flight on the 17.07.13 i found the cabin crew very rude and I felt like I was intruding on their flight. I over heard one female crew ask a passanger wh ere he would like a drink, this passenger had ear phones in and was watching a film at the time, he removed his ear phone and said "what" the female crew said " its excuse me not what" and made he say excuse me ?????? then she asked him again he if he wanted a drink. later on after they served the meal the crew made an announcment saying if we wanted duty free we had to go to the middle galley ? i have never heard this before every flight I have been on thr crew have come around with the duty free. throughout the flight we saw the crew 4 times .. take off - drinks - meal - landing in that order. My partner pressed his call bell twice and both times it was ignored he had to go to them galley and request some water for his tables. Air berlin is the worst air line I have ever flown with and will never fly with them again.

Reinhard T & M : Travelling fr om Frankfurt to Rome via Berlin last Saturday, to board a Royal Caribbean cruise, only to discover our luggage didn't come with us. Told on Sunday, before boarding our ship that our luggage was at the airport. Cancelled our pre paid shuttle and caught a taxi to airport to be told they didn't know wh ere it was. Paid for a taxi to the port and informed the cruise line, who contacted them twice a day with our itinerary for our luggage to be forwarded, only to be told only one piece could be located and the other was missing. Needless to say, we never got our luggage at all, and when we contacted them ourselves after 5 days they told us the matter had been given to another company to deal with. Have travelled on lots of different airlines, but none have such poor customer service or lack of care!!!! Never again!!!!! My mother took the Air Berlin last Sunday July 21st from Florence to Stuttgart. They had a delay for almost 2 hours but the big surprice they had when arriving at Stuttgart without even a "piece" of luggage. Immediately on Monday I have called the Airport of Florence and they told me that for technical reasons Air Berlin has not taken the luggage on board (they even did strong things like taking people from first seats to last ones!). Since last Monday I try to contact their luggage service, themselve by phone and e-mail but until today Wednesday July 24th no answer - no contact. If they are not able to do customer service (only selling service is working) it would be better if they close !!!

Live and learn. I'd assumed that AB had been vetted by American, British and One World, but - I was wrong. As for AB, if they can screw it up and get it wrong - you can count on that anyway. Understaffed, chronically late, no announcements, missed connections, etc, etc. You name it - they get it wrong. Unless you prefer airlines like Ryan, Spirit and other assorted 3rd World airlines, avoid, avoid - avoid, Air Berlin! I share this with your as a business-class passenger with more than a million miles on American alone.

I cannot even rate this airline as a 1 because I am disgusted with their service. My daughter recently flew twice in a 8 day span with this airline and both times they lost her luggage. The first time it took 5 days for her to get it back. They would not tell her the courier company who they shipped it with so she had to call all the courier companies in the city she was in until she found it still sitting in their depot and she had to go pick it up herself. The second time, it is still missing. She is a student who is travelling around Europe and has had to cancel travel plans to wait for her bag. She had to book into a hotel in a city she was not supposed to stay in and was informed by Air Berlin that her bag had been found, was on a flight from Berlin and would be delivered to her hotel that evening. No such luck!!! She still waits. Will probably have to cancel more travel plans!! Totally unacceptable! They should be ashamed. As an added note, their people in lost and found could care less and should be fired and replaced with people who care.

Have been waiting 7 days for my luggage. No information, no answers to my questions. Zero customer service. Reading all the complaints, I am considering starting a social media campaign to demand the services that we customers have paid for. If anyone has been through this situation and come out the other side with Air Berlin paying for the contents of lost suitcases, please write in this forum so others can take action. Thank you.

Air Berlin damaged my luggage, took an eternity to address my complaint and eventually decided to barely even compensate me. My luggage was from Samsonite and was determined to be worth about USD 500 (taking into account depreciation) by the person in charge at Samsonite. Air Berlin decided that it was worth 75 EUR and even gave a deadline for me to accept their "take-it-or-leave-it" offer. Worst of all, I do not have a European bank account so I cannot even receive the money. I will never take this * up airline ever again and rest assured that I will use all possible means to ensure that my social network is aware of this junk airline.

In English there is not a polite enough word to describe the poor, understaffed, un helpful staff Air Berlin hires. The airline lost our youngest daughter's luggage, and it took 2 full hours just to file the preliminary claim--due to the customer service counter only being staffed by one person. Their process for filing a missing bag claim via email is quite unsatisfactory and they have yet to acknowledge our mail (4 days now). We flew from Stockholm to Rome and used them not knowing of their horrible reputation. This will be the last time we use this airline.

Outraged! Horrible Holiday Hospitality!! RATING: OFF THE CHART IN THE NEGATIVES! List of complaints: 1) AIRLINE COMPANY AS A WHOLE - My flight from Florence to Berlin /AB8739 connected AB6450 on Dec. 22.2012 was cancelled, and Air Berlin did not make travel arrangements for their passengers, leaving foreign passengers stranded at airport during the holiday. At the very least, get passengers to next destination instead of leaving them at the airport, for 2 days. 2) PEOPLE - Customer service at Florence's Air Berlin check-in counter was very poor. An Air Berlin customer service number was given to passengers for them to make their own arrangements but the service reps only spoke German, and no other languages. I, a Chinese speaker, was in Italy and asked locals to help translate, but even Italians found it hard to communicate, let alone for a Chinese. After my experience with Air Berlin , I have a new found respect for British Airways , Air China , and Lufthansa which completed rest of my trip to Europe , especially - L U F T H A N S A !! Who did not become number one airliner in Germany for no reason ! And BTW - Air Berlin was my first experience and last ! I hope to see some improvements from Air Berlin and hope to hear from your side. Thank you. Kelly Chou kellychou31@hotmail.com

Germany’s second largest airline after Lufthansa, has much improved since last year; particularly in C class, with a brand new cabin on-board their recently purchased A330-200s. It has a couple of hubs in Germany: Düsseldorf (DUS), and Berlin-Tegel (TXL). Flights to New-York JFK operate daily from both hubs, which we found quite practical. From what we experienced in C class, Airberlin is not a "low cost" anymore; though rates remain much cheaper compared with Luthansa, Air France or British Airways. Less than US2000 return to/from New York is more than fair. The cabin is 2x2x2 good pitch, width 50cm, very comfy though slightly inclined seats: some travelers might find that they are not conveniently designed for sleeping. Excellent food. Liquors OK; but no Champagne... I traveled Saturday the 15.of december, with flight 7111 Business class to Germany. The Counter in Miami was a total Disaster Experience and the Counter-agent forgot to give me my green card back, which is always attached with a paperclip inside my passport. She must have left it on her desk top, while she was talking during the transaction with other people in spanish. Since then, I am trying to call all Air Berlin phone numbers in Miami and none of the positions are filled even after the prescribed travel time in the afternoon. What happened to the supervisers number, or lost and found number and the service you brag about?

It seems that many of yours faced obvious problems with AirBerlin AB; my most recent experience with them, dates back from summer 2012, flying from Berlin TXL to New York JFK. I arrived much in advance, and they nevertheless checked me in most kindly, then sent me to the British Airways BA lounge. The new Business Class cabin is amazing, and the catering fantastic. Don't forget that this is a so called "budget airlines"; what I received from my investment was more than satisfying. Check my review, and please send me your feedback. Did you, flying AB recently, got the same impression or not?: www.travelfirst.com/pays3/airberlin/airb...

I asked your attention the indignity that I was restricted during air travel I could not flight cause of Air Berlin. In detail the facts: • I booked online last spring a flight from Venezia to New York City Via Dusseldorf for 10/31/2012 (ref. 3ZMAQF) for I and all my family; via Skyscanner payed by credit card to Air Berlin (invoice n° 1201154014/1). • At check-in Venezia Air Berlin control directly and verified all my booking (Venezia – New York City via Dusseldorf , return fly Miami – Venezia via Dusseldorf ), the tickets, the seats on the flights and our passports. All luggage forwarded directly to New York, and gave us the Boarding Passes for the flight Venezia - Dusseldorf, for the next leg Dusseldorf - New York. • In Dusseldorf, on boarding, Air Berlin ask us the return flight documents. I mentioned to the hostess of land (a middle-aged lady, not very tall, * -haired) that the bookings tickets was, in order to avoid loss, in suitcases loaded in the plane because in Venezia already controlled and if would be easy find it because flight booked as always with Air Berlin (flight to 11.10.2012 starting at 16.05 from Miami to Venezia Via Dusseldorf -ref. PNR – 05165344 booked on line via skyscanner - geruxx, payed by credit card invoice n° 0277097). They get saying Air Berlin have no one flight from Miami to Dusseldorf and therefore we had no right to boarding. • With an arrogant way and with treatment usually reserved to a criminal, in the presence of my family I was told that I could not get on board and that they would offload luggage, moved us to the border and leaving me and my family waiting for luggage for more than an hour. • Immediately I go to Air Berlin desk on Dusseldorf Airport and I submitted, my correct and timely booking. After a few moments of embarrassment an officer reported, changing reply, that the return reservation has been canceled. • At my specific question who, when, and how have been canceled, answer me that I was able to rebook all flights with a small fee of 3,000 euro. Why I had to pay two times the flights? • I alone had to search accommodation in Dusseldorf (at 9.00 p.m. with two child) in an attempt to resume my journey, by Air Berlin negligence stopped. • From the hotel, and not without difficulty I pay again return flights to Venezia for my family and I buy a new ticket to New York via Frankfurt and Amsterdam arriving late than planned, blasting the holiday to my family and making me go back to Italy ahead as planned. • Not only that, in 11.08.2012, about at 10.00 am, Air Berlin Italian customer service (phone n. 199 400 737) confirmed my reservation still effective and never erased, as exact words. This makes the fact even more serious because your behavior demonstrates a patently false, bad faith and flippant of your costumers. • We request a full refund to Air Berlin about: o AB8863 date 10.31.2012 Venezia - Dusseldorf - ticket No. 745-2305266685, 686, 683 and 684. o AB7480 date 10.31.2012 Dusseldorf - JFK New York. o AB7001 date 11.10.2012 Miami - Dusseldorf, o AB8862 date 11.11.2012 Dusseldorf - Venezia . • In addition: o Flight B641 date 11.05.2012 New York - Orlando Airblue Jet Airlines (tickets ETKT 169-2299281543, 544, 545, 546). o To stay in Dusseldorf at the NH hotel Andrestrasse 29 two nights for 4 people, o the new return flights for my family: o FR6226 date 11..02.2012 from Dusseldorf Weeze to Treviso (Ryanair flight - XLGVKX reservation for 3 people) o KL1764 date 11.02.2012 Frankfurt – Amsterdam o KL0641 date 11.02.2012 Amsterdam – New York JFK (booking No. 168855061) o AF3661 date 11.06.2012 New York - Frankfurt o FR8092 date 11.07.2012 Frankfurt Hahn – Treviso (Rayanir booking No. 168857768) o All expenses related to the transfer to and from the airports is not expected and incurred by failure to boarding generated by the carelessness of Air Berlin.

Delays happen, luggage gets lost, but so long as an airline tries to make ammends, people move on and forget about it. Not so with Air Berlin whose "customer care" division seem to be a bunch of cowardly, lying, evasive and incompetent people. Behind all the empty rhetoric ("sincere apologies ...etc."), is a carefully orchestrated plan to evade all responsibiliy for many Air Berlin problems. In my case, my flight fr om JFK to Rome (September 6, 2012), was delayed for 9 hours, and luggage was lost for 5 days. Adding insult to injury at JFK, passengers were given a $15 voucher to cover the meals needed in the 9 hour wait. That's about enough to buy two "meals" comprising junk food and unhealthy sodas. With regard to my lost luggage, Air Berlin "customer care" wrote me (more or less), "Your rescheduled flight was with Brussels Air. If we didn't transfer your luggage or if they lost it, call them. It's not our problem." I can accept human error. I cannot and will not accept insulting behavior from an air line who treats their passengers worse than they reat the garbage taken off the plane. At least the garbage probably goes to a recycling dump. The airline could seem to care less wh ere the passengers or their luggage end up. And the problems only get worse when "customer care" gets involved. Air Berlin seems to be a bunch of amateurs masquerading as a professional air carrier. Their complete inability to service this customer at every livel (timeliness, luggage handling, remedial customer service, etc.) suggests a business motivated by profit without any regard for their consumers. I will never fly Air Berlin again and I will make a point of discouraging other friends or colleagues from flying with these D-Grade carrier.
